Some funds raised by the Friends are designated for the support of specific projects within the Diocese. Examples include:
The balance of the funds raised are used by the Diocese to support normal activities. The Diocese is desperately short of ordained ministers and donations from the Friends can help to support the provision of additional clergy.
The Diocese is also widespread across the whole country of Uruguay and travel costs can become a significant inhibiting factor to priests travelling to some of the more outlying mission posts.
As an example the Diocese has two missions in the north area of Uruguay, Santa Maria and San Andres (departments of Rivera and Tacuarembo), where a priest is needed twice a month, demanding financial support for transportation, rent of a chapel, etc. Assistance with the funding of such costs is another area where the Friends support is used.
The Diocese also uses the Friends' monies to support the Bishop and his work and his many needs.
Our Treasurer for many years until her untimely death, Cathy Harrison, had
worked for our Church in Uruguay and in particular, Salto.
A new Church has been built and is was consecrated at the end of March,
2008.
Funding for the Church's construction was made from donations to the
Friends in memory of Cathy. Please follow the link to our Fund Raising page for images from the
Consecration..
